March 22, 2012 - Voting


The procedures for the Election of Officers can be found in Article IV of the Constitution and are summarized below:

WHEN: In March of even years the UAFT shall elect officers. Terms of office shall be two years. The UAFT will elect the following officers:
1. President or Co-Presidents (0-12 credit buy-out per semester)
2. 1st Vice President (no buy-out)
3. 2nd Vice President (no buy-out)
4. Treasurer
5. Secretary (Treasurer & Secretary may be combined.) (0-12 credit buy-out per semester for combined position)

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for office, a person must be a member in good standing of the UAFT for a period of six months prior to the date of the election.

1) Ensure that the person you are nominating accepts the nomination
2) Send an email to the Union office identifying the person and the position (click here to generate a nominating email to: OR make your nominations in-person at the general membership meeting held on your campus.
3) Nominations must be received by the Union office no later than March 23, 2012 by 4:00 p.m.

All members that have paid their $10 dues are eligible to vote. You have been sent an email from the Union office (Nancy Bish) on 3/27/2012 3:05 PM that provided a link to an on-line voting site. Please take a minute to vote.

Please consider volunteering to serve on one of several standing committees by sending an email to the Union office (

Grievance Chair and Grievance Committee members are needed: Year-round committee that meets via phone to review possible grievances. The grievance chair must be in Anchorage. The grievance chair can receive a release from teaching.

Negotiations: This committee is only active during contract negotiations – members typically receive workload buy-outs ranging from 3-6 credits; the next round of negotiations is scheduled to begin in August 2013 so work would begin in late spring of 2013. Members on this committee are appointed by the President, so let the Union office know if you are interested in serving.

Labor-Management Committee on Salary Issues: This committee meets as required by the CBA, the next scheduled session will begin in the fall of 2012 to address the 2013 market adjustments – the committee meets face-to-face in Anchorage and/or Fairbanks several times between October and January.

Labor-Management Committee on Health Issues: Referred to as the Joint Health Care Committee, JHCC, this committee meets monthly with most being conducted via telephone, however, there are some face-to-face in Anchorage and/or Fairbanks.
